Favorites of 2011

I can't believe it is time to say goodbye to another year.  2011 has been such a fabulous year from graduating at The University of Alabama, my niece, Kayla, being born and bringing such joy to our family's lives, and the explosion of Doodlebug Art.   I can remember this time last year, I kept telling everyone how much I wanted to get this whole 'painting' thing going, really get it my creations out there, get my website going, and create a Facebook page.  I was so nervous to create my FB page, in fear that no one would 'Like' it..but look at it now - less than a year and I am so close to 200 fans!!

In order to end the year off right, I thought I'd take a moment to share with you my absolute favorite pieces of this year! Here they are!..

I can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for not only myself, but Doodlebug Art.  Hopefully some craft shows, maybe pieces in local shops!
I want to thank all of you one last time this year for all of your love, support, & sweet comments!
Enjoy the last bit of 2011!

One Proud Lady

This post is dedicated to my most proud piece yet!  I have a {very} small collection of windows that I have had since the beginning of summer.  I had some ideas of what I wanted to do with them {thanks to Pinterest} but I still wanted to hold off to see if I could come up with the perfect idea.  I went to Home Depot yesterday to get some wood cut for some frames I am going to create for 2012 {which if you have visited my Facebook Page, you have already had a sneak peek}.  I got some different lengths cut and the creative wheels in my head started turning....

The pictures are 4x6's.  There is a long frame that is Chocolate Brown, a smaller frame that is Tiffany Blue, then PlexiGlass to protect the pictures.  I have one more window in this design, and a few windows that have 2 rows with 3 panes each that I am going to fix up!  {which I can't wait to see how they turn out!}

& just because ya'll are so awesome, here is a sneak peek of one of DBA's 2012 picture frame designs

Merry Christmas!!

I just wanted to stop in and thank all of my Doodlebug Art fans!  I have to say that I pretty much have the most awesome fans out there!  I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful Christmas!!

Thank you for all of your love and support.  Christmas 2011 was such a great success and I love being able to create special pieces for you and your loved ones.  I hope they all enjoy their pieces just as much as I enjoyed creating them!!

Before I sign off , I've got 2 last pieces to share.  These pieces are going out to my family.

As you all know, I have a new niece that was born in September.  I wanted to play around with this idea of using her footprint in an image. This was one of her gifts to her Mommy and Daddy..

This one is going out to my aunt - she has been wanting a Dots painting, but wanted to peace signs painted within them.  Can you find all of the peace signs?

And.... I just realized I haven't posted this piece yet, so why not now?  This is a 'Welcome' sign that I created for fun. I love the color palet - oranges, greys, and greens.  This piece is about the size of  a 10x20.  {It is still available!}

Once again, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas full of love and cheer! :)

Well Hot Dog!

Wait, what? I'm blogging?  That's right!  I didn't mean to abandon ya'll - writing a new post has been on my list of things to do for a few weeks now, but I think we all know by now that I do not like coming up with things to say, I'd rather just show my pictures! :)

So to make it short and sweet, I have been working on Christmas orders everyday now for the past couple of weeks, and I finally feel like I am getting somewhere with them.  My problem is I start one, then start another while that one is drying, then start another, then go back to the first, back and forth, back and forth, and back and forth.  Then by the end, I have 10 canvases with backgrounds painted, but nothing on them!  Anyways, my goal is to finish up orders this week because I will be out of town this weekend.  SO - if you ordered a Christmas order - be on the lookout for an email soon!  Okay, I feel out of breath just typing all of that so here is an update on some Christmas orders as well as a few newbies!

First up - my all time favorite piece.  LOVE the colors!

This cute little 11x14 frame is going in a little girls pink and green room!

Crosses are such beautiful pieces - I think they look great hanging up anywhere!

This is one of the newbies.   It is a 12'' piece of wood, 2 inches thick so it stands up.  A coordinating piece of paper is glued on as well as a bulldog clip.  I think its a great piece, because you can change out the picture as often as you want with the clip!

This is another version of the clip on frame.  This time, I painted a curly 'K' for the baby's initial!

This is another newbie.  I think it is safe to say that this has been the year of burlap, and yes, I fell into the burlap obsession!  It is a cute little frame with a burlap bow attached at the top.  I plan on making some in pinks and blues that would look great in a baby's room!

Now for the last 2 paintings.  Who the heck doesn't love a personalized gift!?  Especially for those girly girls that love glitter, rhinestones, and PINK!

Last but not least, I think every family needs at least 1 personalized piece ;)

Well good grief, I didn't know I was THAT behind on catching you all up!!  Hopefully that won't happen again!

Merry Christmas!!!

It's Here!..

The Christmas season! Can you tell I am excited yet?..if not, then just wait!  Sometimes I feel like the Crazy Target Lady (which I have waited all year for these commercials!)..

To celebrate the Christmas season, I have been hosting a giveaway this weekend for $25 towards Doodlebug Art! I can't wait to find out who wins tonight!  The contest ends at 8 p.m. tonight so you still have a couple of hours to get your comments in!

Along with a list of Christmas orders to get done this year, I have/am trying to work on some pieces on the side that are ready to go for some last minute Christmas gifts.  I have started a 'Ready to be Shipped' album on my Facebook page of these items.  If you are interested in one, just leave a comment with your email underneath the pictures, and I'll get it to you ASAP!

Lately I have been in love with 'recycled art.'  That is probably a big thanks to Pinterest.  But I love finding old/used pieces to create on.  These next two pieces of art are made on a long piece of aged wood.  They are mixed media pieces of art with acrylic paint and scrapbook paper.

'I Heart Wine'

Both pieces are available under the "Ready to Ship" album on Facebook!

Word Work

I think it is safe to say that my elephant Alabama paintings are probably, by far, my most popular item. I have been wanting to try out some 'wood work' lately because I feel that is all I see at craft shows {along with burlap items}  Now don't get me wrong, just because I see so much doesn't mean I don't like fact, I have loved everything I have seen lately!  So much, that I had to try it for myself.  And.. that is where the elephants come into play.  I needed a simple pattern that I could draw out on the wood and that my handy-dandy brother could easily cut it out.  My elephants are probably one of the most simple things I draw out when painting - and that is how this new item was born....

This elephant is cut out of a thin, lightweight wood.  I painted it and sealed it.  I would have to say that the tail is my fav.  I took three pieces of thin rope, braided them, and painted them.

Usually, I am the type that never likes any of my finished products because I always find something I don't like about it.. but after I finished this little cutie, I couldn't stop smiling!

Don't forget to get your Christmas orders in!  {They are already starting to stack up!}  You have until November 25 to get any Christmas orders in!!

Girl Power!

I absolutely love when I get an order for something really girly..that means lots of glitter and rhinestones and y'all know I am all about that!  I was asked to do a canvas for a little girl who is getting her own room!  Greens, purples, and yellows were the requested colors.  Since I didn't know what shades of those colors, I just tried to get as many of those shades of colors as I could!

Each flower has it's own details, which a big reason why I love this canvas so much.  I wanted each flower to have it's own personality.  I used shades of pink and red as accent colors, which I think helps the canvas 'POP!'

With this beautiful fall weather lately, it was time to pull out my scarves (and I hae a lot of scarves).  I had 3 pieces of wood that are about 30 inches long.  I painted one piece of wood lightly with turquoise, then blended just a hint of red and white with it.  Then I had to distress it because I am all about distressing these days!

I have been waiting for a reason to go shopping for knobs at the good ole' Hobby Lobby and I finally had a reason too!  I picked out 6 knobs that went with my color scheme and screwed them into the wood.  And voila!  I now have a new scarf holder!  It would also be great to hang necklases on or even coats!

I have 2 more pieces of wood available that are not you can choose your own color schemes if you are interested in one!  Please send an email on over to!

Pumpkin Patch

I ran across this cute idea on Pinterest the other day.  (Follow me @ Laura Hatfield if you aren't already!!)  I am in love with fall which means I love all the decorations and craft projects.  There are so many I want to try out, but of course, there isn't enough time so I decided I'd try out the pumpkin patch.  These pumpkins are made from 4x4 pieces of wood.  I painted, distressed them, and added the stems. I found the little sign at Hobby Lobby in the Christmas section.  I used my cricut to cut out"Pumpkin Patch" on it.   They are the perfect addition out on the porch PLUS they can be used through Thanksgiving!

Unfortunately, I am only offering them to locals in Huntsville, AL (due to the extremly high cost of shipping it'd cost!)  If you are interested in a set, please email me at

The weekend is almost here!!

Hello There!

So my plans to blog last week obviously fell through.  It has been a bit hectic, but I am loving every minute of it!  With Christmas just around the corner, orders are starting to pick up.  I have been working on a large order that is headed to Florida..I am so excited to get them shipped out this week!  Here is a few from that order!

I just love everything about this canvas (maybe that is just because I am a teacher myself!)  I think I will have to make one of these for my classroom.

Painting the next two designs are so much fun.  You don't have to worry about perfection with it...its one of those paintings that you can just go with it!

Alabama Dots

Auburn Dots

These door hangers are the perfect addition to your door during football season. Heck, you can keep it up all year long!

Don't forget to get Christmas orders in before I close them down!!
